Tips for using French Market spices
Storage
- Herbs and spices don't go bad per say, but they will loose their flavor and strength over time. Proper storage will extend their
shelf life.
- Always store your spices and a cool, dry, and dark place. Avoid storing spices over the stove or in direct sunlight.
- Replace lids on tins when not in use. Our tins are designed to properly seal out air,
moisture, and light to maintain product freshness.
- Properly stored and handled, your spices will keep fresh and flavorful for a year or more.
Whole (un-ground) spices will remain fresh for much longer.
Using our Spices
- To release their flavors, lightly crush dried herbs between your fingers just before usage. A
mortar and pestle can also be used.
- Most of our blends do not include salt. Salt meat and vegetables first, then apply spices.
- Herbs and herb blends, such as fines herbes, make an excellent finishing touch. Sprinkle a
small amount on your dish just before serving.
- You can substitute our dried herbs for fresh herbs in your recipes. When substituting for
fresh herbs divided the quantify by approximately one-third. For example, if a recipe calls for 3
teaspoons of fresh rosemary use 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary.
